Place a the oil pan underneath the drain plug for the transmission. Do not confuse this with the engine oil drain plug. Need a picture of this so people don't get confused. Remove drain plug and allow fluid to drain out into the pan using the 13mm socket. Once the fluid stops draining, re-insert drain plug.

When refilling, only short it by 1 quart. To clearify, 4.5 quarts should drain out. Add back in 3.5-4 quarts. Then add more fluid immediately after cycling through the gears, heating the fluid up to the insane level called for, is insanity. For setting the final fluid level, the engine has to be running and in Park.

Dropped it off at the Chevy dealer up the road, they called back with the diagnosis in the title. Over $500 to repair, not covered under powertrain. :angry:
Because of the cold temperature I had a shop take care of this work. The cooler lines out of the transmission run to a thermostatic valve that's located near the bottom of the radiator. The shop pulled the battery, battery tray, and the transmission support in order to replace the line that connects to the drivers side of the transmission.
